Adjustment of Status is the process of becoming a Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States. This can oftentimes be done via a family-based petition, as well as an employment-based petition, to name a couple. There are several other laws that allow Adjustment of Status such as the Violence Against Women Act and the Cuban Adjustment Act. The primary benefit, of course, is obtaining your permanent resident status. While your application is pending, you can also qualify for employment authorization and sometimes permission to travel outside the United States.
